I can’t remember how I originally got this game – I think either it came with our Playstation 2 or we purchased it because it was on discount in a shop – anyway in regardless to how I obtained this game, it changed the way I game forever. It had such a huge HUGE impact on me.
If you haven’t heard of any of these games, they are a series of skateboarding sports games based on Tony Hawks. Pro Skater 3 was released in 2001, it was published by Activision O2 and developed by Neversoft. The aim of the game is to go to different locations such as Canada, Cruise ship, the Foundry and complete a number of different tasks and challenges in the allotted time. You could choose to play as a variety of different professional skaters including Rodney Mullen, Bam Magera, Kareem Campbell, Steve Caballero or even Tony Hawks.
This is the game that welcomed me into the world of Tony Hawk games and left me completely and utterly addicted. I am not the only one who feel like this either as it has been voted the highest rated Playstation 2 game of all time. It was just so fun, the challenges, the locations, the skill – it was just amazing.
The game did not just change my perception of gaming and the style of games I played but it also introduced me to the world of skateboarding and more importantly lots of new music. I discovered so many American bands through this game and it lead me to become fans of Bad Religion, Rancid and Motion City Soundtrack.
What are some of your memories of this game?
