Forgotten Songs! – This Week – Do It With Madonna

Welcome to a brand new strand on The Phoenix Remix. Whilst I adore writing about Forgotten Pop, I have been writing it every week for 2 years so I felt that it was time to mix it up and look at the topic from a different perspective.

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them on cheesy countdowns run by music channels over Christmas if you are lucky.

So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

Do It With Madonna – The Androids

It was one of those songs that was everywhere – peoples used to sing ti at school, it was one of those earworms that sort of stuck with you – but it was only the onle line that stuck with in your head over and over again – ‘I’d rather do it with Madonna’. The rest of the song you sort of ended up forgetting.

The song Do It With Madonna was released in October 2002 by the Australian rock band The Androids. It was written by Tim Henwood and Cameron McKenzie and produced by Pete Darcy and Adrian Hannan.

The single was the bands debut single and it did relatively well worldwide. It went to number 4 in Australia, 15 in the UK charts and 12 in Scotland. It sold 70,000 sales in Australia and went Platinum. It also went onto win Best Video at the ARIA Music awards in 2003.

The song apparently only took 20 minutes to write and discusses which ‘pop goddesses’ are good enough to sleep with. The main aim of the song  though was not to insult anyone. Apparently There are also rumours that Madonna loves it.

Listening to the story again it sort of makes me cringe at the lyrics. It’s funny, just over a decade has passed but the world has completely altered and it is different to what it was back in the early noughties. I don’t think this song would do as well in today’s climate. The music melody though is insanely addictive and has a beat that once you listen to it, again it is hard to get out of your head – especially that one line ‘do it with Madonna’.
