Welcome to a brand new strand on The Phoenix Remix. Whilst I adore writing about Forgotten Pop, I have been writing it every week for 2 years so I felt that it was time to mix it up and look at the topic from a different perspective.
There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them on cheesy countdowns run by music channels over Christmas if you are lucky.
So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.
Do You Really Like It? – DJ Pied Piper and the Master of Ceremonies
You know how everyone has a random sort of talent that they point out at parties when songs pop on – well this is one of mine. Even all these years later I know every word of this song inside out. I don’t know why when I was younger that I learnt this song inside out as it was not one that is one of my favourites by far but I think I saw it as a challenge that I wanted to achieve.
Do You Really Like It? was a song that was released by the Garage group DJ Pied Piper and the Master of Ceremonies. The single was released on the 21st May 2001 and it entered the charts straight in at number one in the UK singles Chart. The single sold over 475,000 copies.
I remember when this song was released it was everywhere, you would turn on a radio station and more then likely this song would be on it. I was in Year 8 when this song was released and this was around the time when music and lyrics meant a lot to know them all so I think that played on the factor of learning them all. It was not hard to see why this song did really well in the UK – it was in the prime of Garage music but this one sort of had a fun vibe to it which appealed to many.
