Forgotten Songs! – This Week – Stars Are Blind

Welcome to a brand new strand on The Phoenix Remix. Whilst I adore writing about Forgotten Pop, I have been writing it every week for 2 years so I felt that it was time to mix it up and look at the topic from a different perspective.

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them on cheesy countdowns run by music channels over Christmas if you are lucky.

So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

Stars Are Blind – Paris HiltonĀ

I am not really one who enjoys songs or music that reality stars release but I remember this being a song that when you heard it, it was hard to get the chorus out of your mind and you would find yourself humming it. Whilst I do not think it was a fantastic song it still was very addictive and if you haven’t heard of it before then be warned it is about to get stuck in your head.

Stars Are Blind was the debut single from Paris Hilton, it was released on the 5th June 2006 under the genre of pop reggae. It was written by Fernando Garbay, Shepphard Soloman, Ralph McCathy and produced by Fernando as well.

The song did relatively well in the US Charts (entered at number 18) and did better internationally, it went in a number 5 in the UK, number 1 in Slovakia, Number 1 in Hungary and Number 3 in Austria just to name a few.

The music video for the song is all in black and white and shows Paris Hilton on a photo shoot on the beach and also making out with a man. The music video was listed as number 49 by NME as one of the top 50 worst videos of all time. The song has also had legal action against it as Sparta Florida Music Group felt it had similarities to Kingston Town.

Listening to this song today, the lyrics really are quite silly but I still find the music composition on the chorus really quite catchy. It may not be the greatest song but it is very poppy.
