Life Lessons From Sitcoms – The Office US

Welcome to this months feature all about sitcoms and comedies, I watch a lot of them and always have done for as long as I can remember and looking back on them, I have learnt so many life lessons along the way. So I thought why not shine a light on them and share them with the world – some of them are important some of them are silly little things but I think it is always interesting to share. Today’s life lesson comes from – The Office US

Life Lesson Learnt: Be Michael Scott in Spirit

The more times I watch the Office US, the more I feel I have a lot in common with Michael Scott. OK, so I don’t run people over with my car,  I don’t cook bacon at the side of the bed and I definitely don’t think or do any characters when I organise team meetings (to be fair I don’t organise team meetings anyway but you get the gist.) . However, take away the crazy and focus on a metaphorically stripped back version of Michael Scott I really feel I can relate.

One thing that he tends to do a lot is go out his way to put other peoples happiness before himself. Look at all the crazy meetings and silly schemes – it is always about making others feel better. I feel that I am sort of similar as well. I will always put someones problems before my own and I will always go out of my way to try and cheer someone up. A lot of the time this can entail extreme silliness.

There are some moments in the show where we are introduced to Michael doing his ‘improv’ lessons – whilst a lot of the times he is very much about shooting everyone, the one thing I do admire is his way to think of improv  in a different angle to others and a lot more of a ‘wacky’ approach. I always try and think out of the box some character came across too wacky but hey, if you don’t try you will never know.

The one thing about Michael Scott that I adore the most is the fact that away from the ‘limelight’ of everyone he is very shy and really wants to be loved by everone and has high ambition. I feel I can relate because I do have a high ambition, I do want everyone to like me and I am just as bad at reading guys and I am also shy away from the world that people do not realise.

It’s probably sounding really random but I do feel a link to Michael Scott, silly or not it’s quite refreshing to have that link.
