Off The Record – ALBUM FOCUS – Psychedelic Urban Circus, Ruby Confue

Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first!  Today we look at an album that is the debut solo album from Ruby Confue, Psychedelic Urban Circus

Little Tree

The album opens with a song that starts with clapping and then enters into a world of music created with lots going on that you have to listen well to differentiate what the instruments are being used. This may sound like a messy song but it’s not it ties in wonderfully with the lyrics od the song and has a summer vibe to it. The two things that are most interesting about this song is the voice of Ruby and also the bass that intertwines throughout the song.

Fire

This song is slower and the music styling remind me of singers such as Alicia Keys or Amy Winehouse and sort of combines those two styles together. Whilst the music composition may not be as Complex as the first song on here, it is wonderful because it really highlights the talents and strength of Ruby’s voice.

Opposites

This song opens with acoustic melodies of the guitar and birds faintly tweeting in the background which create a lovely image of a summer day with a faint breeze. The song has a very soulful base to it and as the song develops the melodies become more bolder with instruments such as trumpets and it becomes a delight to listen to.

Azul

This song is quite interesting to listen to as the music goes through a journey and the drum beat delivers you there. The lyrics are enchanting and it sort of welcomes and memorises you into Ruby’s world.

Take Off Your Armour.

This song automatically attracts your ears because of the drum beat, it’s got a predominant beat that is hard to forget. The brass instruments intertwining throughout the lyrics create a sexy vibe to the music. Although saying that, the slight musical interlude after the chorus feels like it belongs on a old Cadbury or galaxy advert where they look to see if anyone is in before eating their bar.
