Hello Michael tell us all about who you all are and three unknown facts about your troupe!

We are “Just Friends”, a long form group based in London. Three facts: Marie does great dramatic monologues, Prathap does great sexy eyes, and member emeritus Laura Benson was once in a movie that is sold in Walmart and does very well with the midwestern Christian crowd (or so we’re told).

How did your troupe form?

Just Friends was formed from the tears of a gargoyle that was awakened by the magic of improv. Or by a couple people from a Hoopla class, we can’t remember.

How did you come up with the name of your troupe? Was it difficult?

We stared long and hard into the void until it stared back and then we shouted “VOID, DO YOU WANT TO BE ROMANTIC PARTNERS?” and it shouted back “No, we wanna be JUST FRIENDS”.

How did the show come about?

Ellis. Ellis did everything! Every group deserves an Ellis. Please do not take our Ellis.

How did you get into improv?

We all love performing in one way or another, and soon discovered we all like doing stuff with each other. Platonically. Some of us are actors, some of us comedians, all of us are champions and absolute legends.

Tell us a little bit about the show that are happening this week?

“Just Friends and Friends” is our monthly night that we run at the awesome Canvas Cafe in Shoreditch. It’s a mix of improv and sketch and stand-up and weird alternative acts, and includes an audience jam in the middle as well. Special shout out to our amazing venue the Canvas Cafe and their great vegan food – try the arancini! Our lineup this week is:

Doctor Twoprov – The improvised Doctor Who Adventure

Juliette Burton – Award-winning stand-up comedian

Stealing The Show Improv – The improvised Heist Comedy

Just Friends Impro – Resident improvisers and platonic buds

It is a new season of improv what are you most looking forward to seeing?

We’re really excited to get back to our show following our August break, but we are stoked for the Hoopla Improv Marathon, as well as our faves the Playground.

It is the month of september – what were some of the best shows that you saw at festivals over summer and why?

Let me consult my massive Edinburgh list … Crosstentatious, Snort Improv, Frankenstein: the making of a monster, Crocodile Fever, the list goes on. Too many things were seen in Edinburgh. Some cannot be unseen.

How do you warm up before a show?

We do the counting game, where we count from 1 – 20 as a group and start over if we speak at the same time. If we’re feeling silly we’ll replace some of the numbers with fart sounds.

What have been some of the best suggestions that you have been given in a show and why?

Someone told a story about how they became a Buddhist in a train station to impress a girl! That made my day.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Those who follow and like all three will unlock the secret to eternal happiness. Plus we’ll tell you where Prathap lives.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
