Today we head to a Swiss town that is historic and based on the shoreline of Lake Geneva. Montreux was founded in the late Bronze Age. The region has always been known to be a place where royalty has visited and a lot of famous people have been residents including David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Dame Joan Sutherland and Noel Coward. So why do you want to visit Montreux? Well, there is a lot to see depending on what time of the year you visit.
There are many festivals in Montreux that celebrate different events throughout the year. In the first week of September there is a Freddie Mercury Memorial Day ( it is also home to the statue), in July it hosts the Montreux Jazz Festival, they host the Golden Rose Festival in Spring and also the Septembre Musical de Montreux.
One of my favourite thing about Montreux was the walkway along the coast. It is such a wonderful walk with some stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Also one thing I adored was the statues all along the lake walk. I did go around Christmas time so I am sure there was more then normal but they were all really pretty and very impressive. If you are in the west of Switzerland, I highly recommend visiting Montreux as it really is a special place.
