Hello Gary! Tell us about yourself?
I AM GARY TRO!!! I am a stand-up comedian! I am awesome and quite highly caffinated!
What’s the name of your show this year?
The Greatest Superhero Movie Never Made! It’s a show about the greatest superhero movie never made in which I read out a screen play I’ve written of the greatest superhero movie never made called The Greatest Superhero Movie Never Made!
How did you come up with the name of your show that you are taking to the fringe?
I knew I wanted to write a show about the greatest superhero movie never made so I sat down and thought to myself “What could you call a show about the subject?” and, after weeks of brainstorming and think tanks, we eventually landed on this doozy of a title.
Tell us all about your show!
I’ve written a screenplay. It’s 4 hours long but I only have an hour to read it to you. I’m also prone to getting distracted. I won’t lie, it’s the best show I’ve ever written and I humbly believe it’s probably the best show you’ll ever see.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I LOVE the Just Us League, they’re the hottest thing in comedy at the moment! Also looking forward to seeing Javier Jarquin and Jarred Christmas and Jessica Fostekew and Kate Lucas and Sunil Patel and Laura Lexx and the Noise Next Door and Mr. Thing and loads more
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
SO MANY TIMES!! This is my 9th. I don’t think I’ve ever done anything else 9 times in my life.
What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?
Nick Helm, Austentacious, Gary Tro, Counting Crows, Breaking Bad.
Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?
Lordy, there’s too many to choose from. My show is completely made up of one liners. More often than not the one liners make one sentencers, which eventually become one paragraphers and ultimately one show-ers! I love a good one show-er.
What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?
None this year. I’ll go watch a bunch when I’m up there but haven’t seen anything yet.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
If you’re an audience member, take a punt on something, something that needs people to take a punt on it. If a show has awesome reviews and has sold well, it’s not a punt. Take someone’s damp flyer from their desperate hand and follow them into their venue and do your best supportive face possible. On that note, you get as much out of a show as you put into it! Being an audience member isn’t a passive role, it’s active; I’m not saying to vocally join in, but you can absolutely choose whether to enjoy something or not.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Beroccha; rain coat; dreams made of steel.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Pay other people to do it. We can’t sell our own shows, we’re not American.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
You. Yes you, reading this! If you came to my show, it would be a dream come true. How many times in your life are you able to make a person’s dream come true? But you could do it! Just by coming to my show! Which you’ll love anyway and would make your dream come true of seeing my show; it’s win/win!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@garytrocomedy
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
IT. IS. FREE. (Technically “Pay What You Want” but that doesn’t scan as well)
