Hello! Tell us about ChewBoy Productions?

We are a multi-arts company specialising in theatre, film and working with emerging artists. Each project is unique, with the company working with brand new creatives each time around who have expertise in different areas; blending the mix of art forms through digital, visual arts, performance and film.

ChewBoy creates surrealist comedy work which aims to give you something to chew on long after you’ve experienced it; and each piece is left open enough for audience interpretation, so that no two people come away with the same experience. We debuted EUAN last year at the Tristan Bates and are currently on tour with the piece, having won the IYAF’s Best of Brighton Fringe Award in May. We’ve also recently completed production and a screening of our first short film trilogy which was acclaimed when it was shown in Brixton earlier this year.

How did you come up with the name of your show Euan that your taking to the Camden fringe?

Our writer, Georgie (me) was dared by a real life friend called Euan to write a play using just his name as the title. We then put on a rehearsed reading of a scratch, 10 minute piece using just that stimulus and thought “hey, there’s something quite weird, wonderful and funny about this!”

Have you done the Fringe before?

We did Camden Fringe last year at the Tristan Bates where we debuted EUAN in a near sold out run.

What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?

We all saw Misty at the Bush Theatre and Trafalgar Studios and just thought it was the most incredible and unique way of storytelling we’d ever seen. It was unlike any theatre event we’d been to before but was so visceral, powerful and lingering. We also saw Feeling Gorgeous’ piece ‘A Tinder Trilogy’ by Annie Jenkins last year at the Camden Fringe which was a hilarious and incredibly real portrayal of our modern times. It was a really well crafted piece of theatre that struck a chord.

What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?

Get on the ball with social media early! Like, way earlier than you think you need to. Share things about other people’s shows, get interacting with others online. The CF is a community and it’s a great one to be part of each year, so make sure you make the most of the other incredible acts around you!

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden Fringe?

As we said above, the community of the fringe and the people you get to meet. We’ve met some fantastic people just from last year who we’re also weirdly following around other fringes, which is a real nice bonus alongside actually performing.

What are your three favourite things about Camden?

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Jimmy Carr with that laugh.

The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?

Brenda, it just gives a Brenda kinda vibe.
