Off The Record – ALBUM FOCUS – Order In Decline, Sum 41

Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first!  Today we look at the new album by this band – Order In Decline, Sum 41

Turning Away

This song has a really nice intro melody to it that is full of piano that intertwines into a rock guitar riff with a heavy drum beat. It is dramatic whilst also full of emotion. The verses are very quiet in comparison with only a mellow drum beat and guitar so that when the music really kicks in it creates drama. The chorus and Bridge are very similar to past Sum 41 songs and there is a fantastic guitar solo half way through as well.

The New Sensation

This song starts with a really unusual drum beat that then builds up the tension for the guitar beat to intertwine. This song is quite catchy it has a different yet similar sound of this band that it sounds both fresh yet familiar at the same time. A must listen off the album as it is a good little song.

Heads Will Roll

This song opens with a really catchy staccato beat that you would find in a classic dance track which is both different and also very Sum 41 – trying to reinvent their sound. This song has a great set of lyrics and the style of song really suits this band. If you listen carefully, throughout you will hear the tingle of a piano and that really works well.

Never There

This is one of the slowest songs on the album and relies on piano and acoustic guitar to create emotion and emphasise the sadness of the song. It’s a very pretty song which makes it I suppose bittersweet.

The People Vs…

When Sum 41 first started they used to do joke tracks as a heavy rock band called Pain For Pleasure whilst their main band focused on punk rock style music. Over time their music has moulded more into the alter ego and this song is a very good example of how the guitars and music was played with that band although it is a lot more political and less jokey
