Forgotten Pop! – This Week – Fat Les

They are a band that whenever there is a World Cup you will hear them being played on th radio – welcome to the world of Fat Les.

Fat Les was a band that was formed in 1998 by Blurs bassist Alex James, actor Keith Allen and artist Damien Hirst. The whole idea of the band forming was to create an unofficial England Football anthem called ‘Vindaloo’. The song was written as a parody of football chants but funnily enough it is now considered a cult classic.

The song went straight into the UK Charts at number 2 being beaten by a football song that is considered one of the best, ‘ 3 Lions 98’ by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds. The music video was a parody as well because it took the mickey out of The Verve’s music video for Bitter Sweet Symphony.

Even though this is the song that they are famously known for, they also had a number of other singles including ‘Naughty Christmas (Goblin In The Office)’ in December 1998 and ‘Who Invented The Fish and Chips?’ which was in 2002 with Lily Allen. So today lets have a look at their hits.
