Hello! Tell us about Noser: The Start Up Musical?
Hello! Noser: The Startup Musical is nothing short of an olfactory revolution. It’s a satirical musical comedy about the world’s first app… that sends smells, not emojis.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?
Well, we needed a title that summed up the uniqueness of our show (hence ‘The Startup Musical’). And we’re ‘Noser’ because it makes perfect sense for an app that sends smells, and yet is a totally ridiculous, made-up, startuppy sort of word.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
So many, and we haven’t had chance to look through the programme just yet! We’re excited to see Moon and Alex Nash in Open Wide. Krent Tablowski for sketch comedy. Rosie Jones and Hal Branson for standup comedy. Anything with Jonny Woo provides our musical fix.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe?
We have – but not this fringe! Noser premiered and sold out at the Camden Fringe last summer, and we had so much fun, we knew we had to take it to Edinburgh. Our key pieces of advice (and bear in mind we’re total amateurs) would be: do your prep, promote your show with joy, and have as much fun as humanly possible. Also, have an orange every now and then. They smell great, and you’ll need the Vitamin C.
What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?
We’ve only performed Noser a handful of times so far, but each time was bonkers and brilliant in its own way. No two shows are ever the same!
Favourite one liner from your show and why?
‘This is no freshly cut grass! This is FARTS!’ It’s a big moment in the show. A huge moment.
What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?
Definitely Moon. It’s a sketch group with incredible accents, impeccable style and some really creepy, funny comedy.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Get into that sweet spot between having a few shows that you plan to see, and letting the crowd and word on the street be your guide. Also, bring a raincoat.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
The aforementioned raincoat, a sense of adventure and a ticket to Noser: The Startup Musical.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
A well designed flyer, some quality patter and a beautiful dog (we have one). Doesn’t hurt if you smell nice, either.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Elon Musk, obviously! Loads of tech investment money, and his surname is a smell. It’s a no brainer.
