Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.
CHOCOLATE COVERED BACON
Today we look at a speciality that became a thing in America after it became a fan favourite at the Minnesota State Fair under the name ‘Pig Lickers’. It has also been sold in other locations as well such as Santa Cruz Boardwalk in California and even in New York. The delicacy has been on the scene since 2015 and since then it has risen in popularity as well as in variation.
The main thing that doesn’t change throughout every one of the variations is the style of bacon is used and that is streaky. It is cooked and then covered in melted chocolate of any flavour of the designers choice – milk, dark and white. Once you have added the chocolate you then apply the toppings.
There has been many variations of toppings added to this dish including sea salt, pistachios, walnuts, almonds and even sprinkles. Since it is such a huge delicacy there are always changing and developing.
The average chocolate Bacon is approximately 638 calories and that is quite a beast for a snack or treat!
