It is not quite Westeros but this week in the North East the Spontaneous Wrecks improv troupe are doing a show that is all about the world of Game of Thrones. The show is on Wednesday the 1st May from 8pm at The Bridge Hotel. I caught up with the troupe to find out all about it.
Hello guys tell us all about who you all are and a little bit about yourselves?
We are Spontaneous Wrecks, an improv comedy troupe from Newcastle, who have been putting on shows for nearly 5 years now!
How did the show come about?
Well, an army of the dead has started marching south and we thought we’d better put on a show in an attempt to protect the living.
How did your troupe form?
Magic! That, and asking people if they’d like to join us.
Tell us a little bit about the show that are happening this week?
At the end of our last show we asked the audience what the theme of the next one should be. They said “Game of Thrones”!
What improv styles do you want to see more of this year and why?
We love interesting and new ways of doing improv, and we love traditional hilarious improv games too. It’s all good!
So why Game of Thrones and what are your favourite things about the show?
The drama, the stakes, the dragons… we could go on…
The new seasons has started will there be any spoilers in your show for people who haven’t seen the new episodes yet?
No! We know how annoyed we would be if someone spoiled the latest episodes for us. We pledge an oath and promise this will not happen!
It is the month of May – What festivals are you most looking forward to this summer and why?
The Newcastle Improv Festival at the end of July of course!
What advice would you give for people thinking about starting an improv troupe themselves?
Get familiar with each other’s styles before you book in your first show. You’ll have more fun and be less nervous that way 🙂
What is the best thing about a night for the audience?
Hopefully us being great!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
We’re Spontaneous Wrecks on Facebook and @spontaneouswrex on Twitter. Ticketsource.co.uk/SpontaneousWrecks for tickets!
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
IMPROV. IS. COMING!
QUICK FIRE ROUND
What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?
We did a cannibalism show once. Didn’t end well
If you could trade lives with anyone for a day who would it be and why?
We’d all swap round with each other in an octagonal fashion
If you could paint anything what would you paint?
An elephant.
What is the most delightful word you can think of?
Haberdasher
Favourite song?
The Game Of Thrones theme tune but the version where the melody is the word ‘Hodor’ again and again
Who is your comedy hero and why?
YOU, because you give us our suggestions
What is your favourite movie quote?
“……..” (it’s from a silent movie)
Who is your favourite cartoon character and why?
Principal Skinner. He used his improv instincts to steam a good ham.
