This weekend is the first ever Hoopla UK and Ireland Improv Festival where 18 acts from all across the country are heading down to the Miller at London Bridge to perform at this very exciting event! Over the week we are going to be interviewing some of the acts that are set to perform! I sat down with the really talented and highly energetic musical improv troupe Music Box to find out all about their set at this weeks festival!

Time Slot: 7pm
Day: Saturday 27th April
Hello There! Tell us about your troupe?
We were formed in 2009 by Becca Gibson, also known as Becca Marriott. (She has since gone on to be a professional opera singer!) Also in the original cast were Georgina Roe, James Witt, Chris Mead, Geoff Marshall, Steve Roe, Jonathan Bishops, Maria Peters, Jules Munns and more. None of the original cast are left in the show now, but what ‘warms Steve Roe’s cockles’ (his words) is that the current cast capture the spirit of the original show so well: It’s adventurous, passionate, funny, raucous!
How did you come up with the name of your show?
Unfortunately no interesting story about the name. We just wrote a bunch of names down and picked one.
Tell us a little bit about your style of improv?
Brave narrative and relationship based long form with no on-stage director; that enjoys ‘crazy town’, innuendo and whacky characters; but tries to find the heart in every alien, cat or organ etc that we play!
What have been some of your favourite improv shows you have been a part of to date and why?
In the last 12 months…
The ‘Yodelling’ show at our Hoopla residencey.
WoofMeow at the London Improv Theatre.
The ‘Recycling Loft’ at Katzpace.
And ‘Forbidden Highland love’ also at the Miller/Hoopla.
What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given about Improv and why?
HOOPLA’s ‘Focus on the fun’ – it’s now our mantra.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@musicboximprov
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
In the words of Hoopla owner Steve Roe, we’re:
Raucous
Passionate
Adventurous
