Off The Record – ALBUM FOCUS – The Unforgiving, Within Temptation

Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first!  Today we look at a new album from the Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation – The Unforgiving.

Why Not Me

This isn’t a song but it is a phenomenal opening to an album. It is spoken word and reminds you of the opening of a dark Tim Burton film or a computer game and it feels exciting and that the album is about to take you on a journey or even an adventure that you will want to know the outcome of with its twists and turns.

Shot In The Dark

The thing that is wonderful about this album is the orchestral vibe that is blended into a heavy rock /emo song. It is amazing there are no bad songs on this album. This song has a wonderful strings melody in the bridge that really packs a punch when the chorus hits in. The guitar solo as well in the interlude really brings everything together

Fire and Ice

The solo piano that is used in this trap is simply beautiful and whilst the lyrics are dark it is a hauntingly exquisite song. When the beat and the orchestra starts to kick in it becomes a song that is powerful and really meaningful

Iron

This is a great song, it is heavy but also highly addictive. This is a song that truly feels like it should of been a single as it has such a great chorus and one that you will want to listen to over and over again. It is very powerful and has some really great lyrics as well – definitely worth a listen!
