The Travel Book – Mercure Hotel Kensington, London, United Kingdom

You are heading to London for the evening and are looking for somewhere to stay that is within a good distance from the tube, not too far away from central and where you can get a nice nights sleep. Well, about a 10 minute walk up the road from the Gloucester Road Tube station there is a Mercure Hotel that you may want to consider the next time you need somewhere.

Now, the Mercure is part of the Accor group that also own the chains Sofitel, Novotel and Ibis however this is the chain that is sort of in the middle – it is not as cheap as Ibis and no where as expensive as Sofitel but welcomes you with a lot of home comforts. Depending on what day of the week you book into the hotel depends on the price.

The Mercure in Kensington isn’t the newest of hotels and the rooms may not be the biggest but the hospitality and the extra little bits make up for it. In your room you are welcomed with an array of drinks and biscuits as well as a good selection of teas, hot chocolate and coffee. There is a bath robe in the cupboards and even an ironing board in the cupboard.

The one thing you want from a hotel is peace and quiet and whilst you can hear the doors of other rooms shut (it is an old hotel) the rooms are sound proof – my room was opposite the main busy road and i heard nothing the whole evening. Go for the convenience of being near London stay for the comfy bed.
