Over the next week we are going to have a chat with just some of the great acts that are performing. Today we catch up with the improv group that is from Lee University in Cleveland – Shenanigans

Hello! Tell us about Shenanigans?

We are the improv team of Lee University (in Cleveland, TN). The group was founded 12 years ago by students and was such a success it eventually became an institution and part of the theatre department.

How did you come up with the name of your troupe?

Not sure, this was before my time. I have been the sponsor for 10 of the 12 years.

What is your time slot?

6PM on Saturday.

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

Shenaingans loves short form and longform improv, but for this show we will be doing some of our favorite short-form games.

What will your set be about?

It’s improv! We’ll be making it up as we go! ☺

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the Gatlinburg Improv Festival?

We love seeing Ian Covell, Einstein Simplified, and Blue Plate Special at the festival every year.

Have you done the festival before? What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?

We are one of the only acts that has performed in every year of the festivals existence. (I think only Einstein Simplified has done the same)

Some acts have already tried it and done shows in the environment but do you think virtual reality has a space to be used in a stage environment and what other modern technologies do you think could alter the way we interact and watch stage shows in the future?

I have not experimented with VR performance. I do worry about it removing the immediacy and energy of being in the same space as your audience and other performers. But this interests me.

#If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Three– Cuz We Awesome—Words

Best thing about performing at the Gatlinburg Improv Fest?
The people (the hosts, the teams, and the audiences, it’s a love fest)

What are your pre show rituals?
Garlic knots!

What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Gatlinburg Improv Fest next year?
Don’t be afraid, this is a welcoming community! And take the classes on Saturday! They are always great and very affordable!

What are your three favourite things about performing?

– Using my brain

– Connecting with teammates

– Telling stories
