Forgotten Pop! – A Month Of Pairs Special Edition – Elton John and RuPaul

This month we are celebrating the world of pairs on the Phoenix Remix – so over the next few weeks we are going to explore the world of forgotten duos – some you may of even forgotten existed and some you will questions as to why they even happened!

Back in the nineties one of Elton John’s hugest songs was remade by himself and the glorious Ru Paul. The song Don’t Go Breaking My Heart was originally released in 1976 and was a duet between Elton John and Kiki Dee. The songs Writers, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, won an Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. The song however was never included on an original album.

In 1993, Elton John teamed up with Drag Queen RuPaul to release a new version of the classic hit song. The style of the new version was classed as Electroinic Pop and it was part of the Duets album that Elton released in the same year. Back in 1993 RuPaul hosted a Christmas Variety show which Elton appeared on called RuPauls Christmas Ball.

The Christmas Variety Show had a variety of sections to it inlcuding – Hattie Ruth’s Country Kitchen where a fat suited RuPaul attempts to teach Kitt How to cook, shops for diamonds and has many guest stars including Nirvana and En Vogue. Elton John appeared and they performed their duet of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.  So lets have a look at the duet today!
