Characters:
Ted Danson – Dr John Becker

Trivia
- The character of Margaret’s husband, Lewis, is never seen in the show, a gag in the tradition of Cheers (1982), in which Norm’s wife, Vera, is never seen, and Frasier (1993), in which Niles’ wife, Maris, is never seen.
- Ted Danson and Nancy Travis previously worked together in Three Men and a Baby and Three Men and a Little Lady.
- Dr. John Becker’s office phone number is 555-0199.
- Throughout the first season, Linda (Shawnee Smith) is seen wearing a lab coat even though neither Dr. Becker nor Nurse Margaret wear one. This is because Smith was pregnant with her first child at the time and used the lab coat to hide her pregnancy. She also used various props, such as patient charts and purses, to help conceal it.
