This weekend there are a lot of shows and events happening at The Miller in London and one of the acts that are performing at the Hoopla Pre-Party is an improv show with a difference. I caught up with Bryn to find out all about Martian Love Affair and to find out all about the show they are performing this weekend.
Hello Bryn! How did you come up with the name of you troupe?
It turns out we were all big Andrew Weir fans, and bumped into each other at the premier of “The Martian”, which it turns out had been the first Weir book we’d all read. It had started a long love affair with Weir’s work, hence it was a Martian Love Affair.
Tell us a little bit about the show you are performing on this week on the 17th of March?
We’re performing at Hoopla’s Pre-Party. Steve tells us it’s the *real* main show on Saturday.
What sort of style Of improv does Martian lover affair do? Do you always do the same format?
It’s a narrative long-form show, so you’ll see us try to put together a story over 15 minutes. We’ve done fun stories, sad stories, crazy stories and scary stories. It’s been fun.
What’s the highlights of some of your previous shows?
The one that stands out for me was the Phone Shop Inception. Paul was stuck in a horrible loop where he couldn’t tell what was real or fake anymore. The Amish got involved… obviously. Evil Inc tends to feature quite often.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
You can find us on Facebook “MartianLoveAffair”.
What do you think 2018 holds for the world of improv – what would you like to see happen in the next 12 months?
More people becoming aware of it, and the end of people saying “what, like standup?” whenever you tell them you do improv.
And Finally – in three words, why should people come and see you at the The Miller?
Crazy fun stories.

I’m not allowed to say…
Elon Musks car – if you had to rename the rocket man in the car what would you call him?
Name all the planets of this universe?
No, extropolating Adams’ theories, there are no planets in the Universe, and the one we occupy is the products of a deranged imagination.
What is your favourite fictional alien /Martian character?
The Doctor… they’re great.
Favourite sci fi film / tv show?
Doctor Who, oh… and I guess “The Martian”.
If you had to choose 5 people to come with you to live on Mars – who would they be and why?
We only need each other, we’d science the shit of living there.
