The group were originally established as a side project of the bands member Ray St Johns songwriting career. Other members of the group included Christian James who was the vocalist and Neil Palmer. The genre of music in which Halo James explored was a mix of soft rock, soul and synth pop.

Their first single release was in 1989 and was the song Wanted that only reached 45 in the UK Chart. Their most popular song that they are known for ‘Could Have Told You So’ was also released in the same year but at Christmas time and reached number 6 in February 1990 in the UK chart and number 3 in Ireland. Their debut album was called Witness and was released in 1990 and charted at No 18. It may of not made it into the top 10 but it did receive critical acclaim and sold over 100,000 copies in the first year.

The band also released a number of other hits in the 1990s including Baby which peaked at 43, Magic Hour at chart position 59 and Wanted as a re-release and did worse then the first time of release and only reached chart position 89.

The band broke up in 1991 due to arguments about the bands long term musical direction, they were working on a second album and it was scrapped when they started to have arguments. So let’s have a look at some of the music that they were known for.
