It’s that time of year where a lot of shows are based around the theme of love and romance. Our show of the week in Newcastle based improv troupe Spontaneous Wrecks whose show this week is all based around the theme of Valentines Day. I caught up with the group to find out just exactly they have in store.
So! New year, new shows! Exciting stuff Spontaneous Wrecks!
Very exciting! We have some great stuff lined up this year so watch this space!
Tell us a little bit about the show you are performing on the 7th February?
It’s our Valentine’s themed show, ‘Brokeback Improv’! Love’s definitely in the air!
Will there be any love themed surprises for the audience?
We’re not saying which one but we really hope one of our performers finds true love with an audience member. If only because she’s homeless and it will give her a bed for the night.
What makes you different to other comedy shows happening around the North East that are Valentines Day Themed?
As far as we’re aware we’re the only one! We’re different to other shows generally in that we try and take a theme in unexpected directions. And when we combine a fun theme with the random audience suggestions we never know where we will end up!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

what are the best things about creating a show around the theme of valentines?
Relationships and love are such rich subjects for story-telling – like a packet of Love Hearts, there are so many things we could say!
What made you decide on the Brokeback theme?
We’re all hopeless romantics at heart, and it’s a great film.
And Finally – in three words why should people come and see you at The Bridge Hotel?
We love you!
QUICK FIRE ROUND
Parks & Recreation – we like it so much we themed a show on it last year!
favourite short form game to play in improv?
Attenborough, for Dan’s excellent impression.
the last thing you liked on social media?
Nerdfest (a podcast featuring some of the Wrecks)
what would your autobiography be called?
What is your favourite joke?
Jon’s got a great one about a moth…
improv group you would love to collaborate with?
Freestyle Love Supreme – so much rhyming, so clever!
