Welcome to this Months feature! Now, January is a time when it is the start of something new and everything fresh! With that means that people are always on the lookout for new music! Well, this feature may not bring you a lot of new music but it will welcome you into my world! Music is a huge part of my life – if i am not listening to it, i am playing my guitar or keyboard or even writing a post for this site (Off The Record).
So to start off 2018 I wanted to write about a topic I love and I came across this daily challenge so I thought why not turn it into an article! So here we go! Lets start this monthly feature – Lost in Music (You probably have that song stuck in your head now its by Sister Sledge)
A Song That Is By Your Favourite Band: Desperate Measures – Marianas Trench
Out of all the articles that I have written for this feature, I found this one of the hardest ones to write for so many reasons. If you asked me a few years back I wouldn’t of thought twice and put Blink-182 but so much has changed both in my taste and also with the introduction of new bands.
Firstly, even when Tom Delonge moved to Angels and Airwaves, I listened to Blink-182 a lot more then AVA because I was used to their music, it was like a comfort blanket so to speak. That is I suppose how i saw Blink- the familiar. When they announced their Neighbourhood album I was over the moon, I was so excited and then when I heard it I realised something – my music taste had changed and I prefered Angels and Airwaves. They had released some great music and from the Blink guys reforming and releasing music I realised I was loving the music that had more of a AVA sound. My musical taste had changed and even though I loved Blink, AVA was raising the bar. I know I am probably bias but I have always preferred the music that Tom has created.
This is why this article was so hard to write because I feel like I am betraying AVA but at the same time in the last few years a band has fallen by accident into my life and completely shaken up everything i knew. I fell into their music by accident – i put on Spotify radio and this song came on and i stopped what doing – it was one of the best songs that I had heard in a very long time and I couldn’t believe how amazing it was. This song with an incredibly catchy chorus and a whole bunch of ‘woa woa woa woa woa woa’s’ that you couldn’t ignore. I had to listen to more songs by this band i HAD to do it then and there. That band was Marianas Trench and that song was Desperate Measures.
I have never heard a song like it before in my life – and i know you may question me when you hear it but its the guitars and the music that really make this song for me. When I really love a song the first thing I have to do is watch the music video – I have always been a sucker for a music video, must be the editor and creative in me. – I watch this video and it completely hypnotised me – it was one of the best narrative and cinematography lead videos i had seen in a very long time. When i Googled it and found out that the music videos for every single for the Ever After album followed a narrative it completely and utterly blew my mind. I love things like this and the fact that this band were so creative and really thought about the creativity in every level spoke on very high levels to me.
To me this song is the closest I will ever get to taking drugs – I find it a complete and utter addiction. Every Time I hear this song I hear something new and unique that makes me fall in love with it all over again. I love the break into the chorus and is so unique in its style. I can’t begin to explain what the chorus does to me – It is one of those songs i have to have turned up loud. No matter what mood I am in, I can listen to this song and it will make me feel a million times better.
You should listen to the song above – even if it isn’t your cup of tea you should really take a moment to appreciate the craftsmanship and creativity that has gone into the story lead videos.
