Welcome to this Months feature! Now, January is a time when it is the start of something new and everything fresh! With that means that people are always on the lookout for new music! Well, this feature may not bring you a lot of new music but it will welcome you into my world! Music is a huge part of my life – if i am not listening to it, i am playing my guitar or keyboard or even writing a post for this site (Off The Record).
So to start off 2018 I wanted to write about a topic I love and I came across this daily challenge so I thought why not turn it into an article! So here we go! Lets start this monthly feature – Lost in Music (You probably have that song stuck in your head now its by Sister Sledge)
A Song that Is A Cover: Basket Case – Bastille
Last time we spoke about a cover that made me really angry because it ruined a song that I loved a lot. Well sometimes, people do a cover of a song that you love and actually do a really good job of it – well this is what today’s post is all about – doing a cover right and doing it correctly. This song was released last year as a song for the soundtrack of the Amazon television show The Tick.
Every Friday for the past few years I always check a Spotify playlist called ‘Fresh Friday’ as it shows you what new music is released and available. When I went down the list and saw this song title my initial thought was – oh god why have they done a cover of such an iconic song. Now before i tell you about listening to it I should tell you from now I actually like a few of Bastilles songs and wasn’t angry it was them covering it, i was angry at the concept that the song HAD been covered altogether. Then I listened to it.
From the first Do You Have the Time, I was completely and utterly hooked. I absolutely adored it – i really like the fact it wasn’t the same song just covered but they had completely and utterly altered it and made it their own – fresh, unique, justifiably a great song for any television soundtrack. It has been beautifully constructed to produce such a fun song and I love the strings that intertwine throughout the song. It is definitely the top of my list of top covers.
