Welcome to this Months feature! Now, January is a time when it is the start of something new and everything fresh! With that means that people are always on the lookout for new music! Well, this feature may not bring you a lot of new music but it will welcome you into my world! Music is a huge part of my life – if i am not listening to it, i am playing my guitar or keyboard or even writing a post for this site (Off The Record).
So to start off 2018 I wanted to write about a topic I love and I came across this daily challenge so I thought why not turn it into an article! So here we go! Lets start with the first in this monthly feature – Lost in Music (You probably have that song stuck in your head now its by Sister Sledge).
A Song That You Liked When You Were Younger: Don’t Wanna Let You Go – 5ive
There were so many songs to chose from for this topic as I listened to music so much as a kid and could go on about sooooo many songs but I chose this one as I have a story that goes with it.
I used to love 5ive, I spent ages in my bedroom coming up with loads of dance routines (I did this to all bands I listened to – S Club 7, Steps, Backstreet Boys etc). In year 6 there was going to be a school disco and I had sorted out a dance routine for this song – I was very proud of it as I spent ages on it and absolutely loved that song.
The school disco took place in the school hall. I have a few memories of these discos from various years – one of the years I remember the boys in the year above us doing a dance routine to Backstreet Boys Get Down (i remember this because a boy I liked was one of the dancers), dancing to Suggs song Secilia, and another thing i remember is whenever the song Footballs coming home came on we all went into benches and sung it at the top of our voices singing Loudly.
Another thing I can’t remember was if we played CDs or Tapes to play the music – anyway I asked for this song to play and as it was playing I was starting to get into it and was about to drop the dance routine for the chorus when one of the popular girls decided she didn’t like this 5ive song and turned it off / fast forwarded it – I was so upset.
So yes – I have a lot of good memories of this song but also that one about the girl who thought we should listen to everything she wanted.
