Forgotten Pop! – This Week – Hoku

This week we look at an artist who had success with a song that you will recognise if you have watched the film Legally Blonde. She had a music career between 1999-2001, today we look at the music career of the artist Hoku.

Hoku, whose full name is Hoku Ho Clements, is from Hawaii and started in the music industry when she was scouted by Producer Antonina Armato. She was encouraged to move from Hawaii to Los Angeles and she signed a $300,000 contract with Geffen Records.

Her debut single was released at the beginning of 2000 and was the song Another Dumb Blonde which you may recognise if you have watched the film Snow Day as it became the theme tune. The day after it was released the song was on the top ten request list of MTV and even reached number 27 in the charts. In April 2000 she released her debut album called Hoku which reached only 151 on the Billboard 200.

In 2001 she released the single Perfect Day which you will recognise from the film Legally Blonde as it became a huge song associated with the cult classic. This was meant to set up the second album for Hoku but due to not being able to find her niche or image in the music industry she quit her label. So lets celebrate the music that she did bring to the world.
