INTERVIEW: Wishing you a Merry Wrecksmas

With Christmas around the corner it’s only right that Newcastle based Improv Troupe, Spontaneous Wrecks show this month is Christmas themed. As the group head into their fourth Christmas show on the 6th December, I caught up with the group to find out about this years extravaganza.

Hey guys! Tell us all about your Christmas show!

Lots of Xmas silliness, like music, singing, and free mince pies. Free mince pies. That’s free mince pies.

This is your fourth Christmas special! Tell us about highlights from the past shows!

We’ve done everything from re-telling A Christmas Carol, to singing brand new made up versions of actual Christmas carols, to hanging suggestions on a Christmas tree. The Christmas Orchestra Game is always a favourite as we get really good festive suggestions. We love to sing Christmas Songs and will probably find a reason to belt one out.

What’s the best thing about doing a Christmas show?

The audience is always huge and very excited! I think our record attendance of 96 was at a Christmas Show one year. Everyone’s full of cheer and very giggly!

And you give the audience mince pies how kind!

I know, we’re bloody generous types aren’t we! We like to treat our audience and say thanks for another year of Wrecks shows. It’s become a tradition!

Will Christmas jumpers be making an appearance? What have been some of the best ones worn before?

Absolutely they will. Anything that lights up, makes a noise or features a dinosaur always goes down well. Geoff never bought a Christmas jumper until we did our Christmas Shows. He’s become quite fond of them now.

Will some of the games have Christmas twists?

They absolutely will. It wouldn’t be Wrecksmas without our own spin on The Queen’s Christmas Message! The Queen herself will be making an appearance, though a slightly more masculine, bearded version.

What does 2018 hold for Spontaneous Wrecks?

We’ll definitely have Star Wars around May time, and our 4th birthday will be in July. Maybe Harry Potter will return?! We’ll try and find more film posters to parody and themes to play with, perhaps even branching into video games too! We also plan to end world hunger, make everyone healthy and happy and stop global warming. We might struggle to get this all done in 2018 but will definitely be able to put a smile on peoples faces with our monthly shows as well as some other treats.

Quick fire Christmas addition
