That Time When

That Time When – I Was The Riddler

I have many stories of fancy dress and insane stuff that has happened along the way but i thought I would start with this story as Sadie, who is our Games writer was there and makes me laugh everytime I think of it.

In my first year of university I was part of the Journalism course – and just like the rumours of ones in the industrym, we both worked and partied hard. We had a lot of course socials and we ALWAYS dressed up for them without fail! We had loads of themes – 118 118 men, Tight and Bright, Cops and Robbers – the list goes on and on and on.

After the first year i decided that I wanted to change courses – not because i didn’t like journalism (that would be so silly since i work in Broadcast News and write this site) but because I didn’t want to study law and politics and changed courses to learn more about new technologies and animation as i felt it would be beneficial in the future. I joined this new course thinking that i should organise a social near the beginning so that everyone can get to know everyone.

Still in the Journalism course mode, I thought it would be a perfect idea to make the first social fancy dress thinking that this was the norm amongst all university courses. i decided on the theme of Heroes and Villains – we were predominantly a male dominated course (7 girls and 60 guys!) and i thought that people could go even basic on the dress up. The main reason I chose the theme was because I realllyyyyyy wanteed the dress up as The Riddler – i have no idea why but at that moment in time it was something i really wanted to do.

Throughut the day people were talking about what they were going as and i was very excited – i hadn’t gone all crazy i had bought a black tumbler hat an stuck loads of green question marks to it and was going to wear black shorts and a green teeshirt with black patterns on it that looked cartoony. The part that I really wanted to stand out was the tights.

These tights had stood out to me in the shop – they were bright green and they were perfect for my outfit – the only problem was I needed black questions marks on them. I got ready for the evening early and thought that the best way to put on the question marks was to draw them on when i was wering the tights – in my head this sounded like a genious idea – in reality this idea ended up being very idiotic.

There I was drawing away around my cardboard question mark template when my housemate came in and looked at me laughing and asked what i was drawing the question marks onto the tights with – i told her permament black marker and then she gasped and we both looked at each other and i had realised what I had done. The tights were very thick and opaque so i just thought drawing on them would be fine and would mean that the question marks would be in the right position i didnt really think about my legs underneath. I took the tights off and both of my legs were entirely covered in thick black permanent marker and loads and loads of question marks. Me and my housemate just looked at each other and laughed – alot.

That permament marker took about a week and a half to fully scrub off – it was ridiculous! You think thats the end of that story? wrong! I went to the fancy dress themed social and I ended up being the only person who had even made the effort to dress up! BAM! take that for an ending and its 100% true.
