The Travel Book – Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset

In the village of Wool in Dorset, there are two tourist attractions that are in very short driving distances that are both very popular but also very different to one another – one of them is Monkey World Rescue Centre and the other comes in the form of big heavy metal and machinery – The Tank Museum.

The museum is renowned for having one of the worlds best collections of Tanks – everything from World War One up to even modern day models. It is a massive museum and in the summer seasons even has shows where you can see the tanks in action.

I went to this museum because someone I knew wanted to go and I wasn’t looking forward to it and I ended up enjoying it. There is something for everyone and there are interactive exhibitions that make it different from your standard museum about war. Also if you have children then there is a play area and picnic area for them to enjoy as well.

If you go to the Museum at the right time of year, predominantly the spring, you have the opportunity to actual sit in a tank and experience it being driven! You have img_9114to pay an additional £3.50 but it is an experience that you will never have again! Throughout the year the exhibitions change as well so if you end up buying a season pass there will always be lots of different things on.

So the next time that you find yourself in Dorset – why not give this delightful museum a visit
