Welcome to a brand new feature to the Phoenix Remix, all about food and comedy! If you remember back in August, we interviewed a comedian who was the opener for Michael Ian Black’s headline show at the Milwaukee Comedy Festival. Well, now John Egan is back with a vengeance and becoming a weekly feature on this site! When he is not performing comedy, John has a Youtube channel where he tries out all the new weird and wonderful food that America has on offer.
So in this brand new collaborative project we are going to delve into the facts and origins of the food and then will have a One Take Review by John. So, ladies and gentlemen welcome to the world of TASTE OF STATES.
Lays, Do Us A Flavor
This summer, the world of crisps was rocked in the United States when Lays (Walkers in the UK) decided to intorduce their new flavours for their annual “Do Us a Flavor” competition. This is a chance for fans to pitch ideas to the company as to what flavours they want to see in crisp form. The winner of the competition has the opportunity to win a million dollars! So you can imagine this is a very popular competition – so mcuh so this year it returned into its fourth year!
Over the years, the competition has seen a variety of crisp flavours win and each of them very different, in 2013 the winner was Cheesey Garlic Bread, 2014 Cooked Wasabi Ginger and 2015 was Southern Biscuits and Gravy flavour. This year there were three finalists who all had very different ideas for flavours for crisp and these were Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese, Crispy Taco and Friend Green Tomato Chips.
The fans get to try the new three flavours and then vote as to what ones they want to become the next big thing. The crisp are available in shops in America until October the 8th and then the winner will be released in due course. Our American Comedian Correspondent John Egan went and tried out all of the flavours to let us know which one he would vote for.
