About the Show

Summary of Plot

Classic comedy following the misadventures of two Wheeler Dealer brothers Del Boy and Rodney Trotter who scrape their living by selling dodgy goods believing that next year they will be millionaires. – IMDb

Number of Seasons / Episodes

9 Seasons

David Jason – Derrick Trotter (Del Boy)

Nicholas Lyndhurst – Rodney Trotter

Roger Lloyd Pack – Triggor

Busty Merryfield – Uncle Albert

John Challis – Boycee

+ The outdoor scenes were filmed in Bristol as the producers could not afford the insurance to film in Peckham.

+ Many viewers felt Gwyneth Strong was miscast, as Cassandra was supposed to be 21 when she married Rodney.

+ Trigger’s real name in the series is Colin Ball. He was named Trigger because he “looks like a horse”.

+ Over a dozen Reliant Regals (the three-wheeled vans) were used during the series.

+ David Jason never regarded the series as a sitcom. Instead he considered it to be more of a comedy-drama.

+ The first two series didn’t perform well in the ratings. However, it subsequently rose in popularity and the viewers had climbed to 15 million for Series Four. It finished the 1980s as the UK’s favourite sitcom.

+ David Jason described director Ray Butt’s London accent as so East End, you could cut it with a knife. In fact, Jason landed the part of Del Boy by ironically making fun of Butt’s Cockney accent with a pitch perfect imitation.

+ Rodney’s personality was based on the experiences of series creator John Sullivan, who also had an older sibling and, like Rodney, claimed to have been a dreamer and an idealist in his youth.
