There is a little town just on the edge of Indianna and only a 30 minute train journey away from the city of Chicago. If you are looking for a place that really highlights the quaint American Subburban life of the States, then Lansing is a place that you must check out.

I came across Lansing in 2011 when I stayed in a house that we booked on a holiday lets website. It was lovely to experience life out of the city and in an area that you may not visit on a normal holiday. Lansing has a population of just over 28,000 and is based in the Southern Suburbs of Chicago.

The village holds a number of community events including the Autumn Festival which has a lot of fun things come to the town such as musicians, food markets and celebration. The high street is filled with lots of places to eat and bars that you can drink in. One of the places we used to visit a lot when we were there was a diner called Bakers Square. Now, Bakers Square is a chain and there are many throughout Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin however, the staff in the location in Lansing are very friendly and make you feel really welcome and part of the family that we just went back for more.

There are many parks and greenery around Lansing with a big park with a river for you to enjoy if you want to go for a walk. There are also a lot of areas to go shopping as well – if you go a bit out of town you can go to Shopping malls that have Macys, however if you want something a bit more unique, then have a look at some of the boutique shops on offer.
If you do decide to stay in Lansing then a car is highly recommended. You can get to the train station via a bus, however it can be limited as to how many run a day and there are limited busses on the way back as well. If you do drive make sure you visit the local areas as there are also some quaint little villages around as well.
