If there is one animal that was a hit in the 1970s it was the huggable, lovable critters from Wimbledon common called The Wombles. The single Wombling Merry Christmas was released on the groups third album that was called Keep On Wombling.

The album was recorded in Wessex Studios and were recorded by Mike Batt with session musicains. This was the first concept album by The Wombles with the entire first side following singer Orincoco Womble through a series of dreams. The album was a mix of op rock and classical music. The album reached number 17 in the UK charts and spent time there for 6 weeks.

The Wombling Merry Christmas was released as a single from the album and reached number 2 in the UK charts on 4th January on 1975.
