Welcome to the new segment of stories on A Little Thing Called.. this time its all about stories. Whilst this strand will look at mainly at the world of books, it will also go into different strands of stories such as stories in music videos, songwriters, film, television etc.
This week to welcome you to the strand we will start at the beginning – the early years. I have always enjoyed reading from a very early age and I still remember some of the characters and books that got me really interested in it. Here is a look at some of the books that made my childhood brilliant.
Mick Inkpen

Mick Inkpen books dominated my childhood and loved pretty much all the books that he created and would read them so much. I still have a lot of them in mint condition in the attic back in London so that maybe I could pass them down to my children if i ever have any. I enjoyed his Kipper books but my favourites were Billy’s Beetle, the Blue balloon, Penguin Small, Threadbear and Nothing.
The Jolly Postman

This was one of those book series I truly adored and also was fascinated by, I loved the fact that it was an interactive experience. it amazed me that each page had letters you could read or activities you had to do.
Wheres Wally
Another book I used to love because of the interactivity involved. It was so much fun spending time searching for Wally and looking at all the different themes. I also used to watch the television show that they made and also get the Wheres Wally magazine which was all about history and georgraphy!
Richard Scarry

I have had this book as long as I can remember, and think it was initially given to me to learn words when i was really really small. Even as i grew up older though I loved this book me and mum used to sit there and go through it not really reading it but deciding what we would o on each page. So in the grocery store, we would choose what we would but or what we would eat. I love this book and it still brings back so many memories.
Spider in the Bath

This was one of my favourite books – i have never been a fan of spiders but loved the television show and the book. The best bit about the book? The spider moved about and there weer handles you pulled to move things!
Funnybones

This is another collection of books i truly loved as well as the television show version of it. I loved the poetry, the illustrations, the stories, it was great they were entertaining and the childrens television show had great skeleton music.
