Derby Comedy Festival, 29th April – 8th May

If you are in the East Midlands, then you have a feast of comedy coming your way at the end of April and would be a fool to miss it! This year is set to be the biggest yet with a whopping 60 events planned across Derby at a variety of venues including Bean Cafe, The Blessington Carriage, David Lloyd and The Guildhall Theatre and The Clubrooms.

This year is the third year of the festival and is about to bring some of the best comedy to your door step. So without further ado, here is the Phoenix choice of shows you must go and see.

Patrick Monahan – The Disco Years

When: Saturday 7th May

Where: The Old Bell Hotel Ballroom

Time: 8pm

Price: £12

About: Award winning funnyman Patrick Monahan will be bringing his laugh out loud show to this festival. It will focus predominantly on his memories of being an immigrant to Great Britain and will make your belly rumble with his anecdotes.

 

Shazia Mirza – The Kardashians Made Me Do It 

When: Sunday 8th May

Where: Guildhall Theatre

Time: 7:30pm

Price: £13.25

About: If you are looking for a comedian with a slight edge then this is the show for you. Known for her deadpan humour, she came onto the comedy scene in 2000 and has been touring ever since. This show is a ‘searing and urgent exploration of life, love and Jihadi brides.’

 

Paul Tonkinson – The Full Tonks

  

When: Tuesday 3rd May

Where: Bean Cafe, Friargate Studios

Time: 8:30pm

Price: £5.50 in advance

About: He has just finishing touring as the support act for Michael McIntyre’s UK tour and he is out and about on his own with his brand new solo show.

Mike McClean  – Just Plain Funny   

When: Friday 29th April

Where: Guildhall Theatre

Time: 8pm

Price: £16.25

About: If you are a Derby local then you will recognise this face as he is a  favourite in the local pantomime. If you don’t live in Derby you may recognise him as he is a Television presenter as well as a comedian and has been on The Big Breakfast, Richard and Judy and also appeared in the UK Office Christmas special. If you are looking for comedy that is specifically aimed at adults with an alternative mind reading act, then this is the man for you.
