Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book that is incredibly popular.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (2017)
Taylor Jenkins Reid
Synopsis
Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?
Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.
Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ’80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.A mesmerizing journey through the splendor of old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means-and what it costs-to face the truth.

Positive Points
The story starts really strong and it is a narrative that makes you want to keep turning the page to find out what is going to happen. It is great initially as it really reels you in as it is a well written story.
Negative Points
In the positive points I stated that it stated strong, and I hate to say I felt it started to lose it’s energy halfway through. The enjoyment I was having wilted as part of the book was just a bit predictable and lost its magical touch.
Overall Review
I would say read this book as you may enjoy it however be warned that it loses it’s magical touch at some point in the book. There is so much hype around this book and I am not sure if it is all worth it. Saying that, I enjoyed the experience of reading it but I don not believe it will be a book I will read again.
