All this month we are speaking to rising star Sandy Netburn. All the way from the state of New York, she is only eighteen and is ready to take on the music industry head first. She already has released a lot of tracks and is ready for the adventure! Today we find out about preparing for shows.

How do you warm up for a show?
I’ll practice a few songs… I try to relax, but I typically freak out like, five minutes before – which is good for me… you know, the pre-show FREAK OUT, and then I just go up and play.
How do you wind down afterwards?
THIS is something I’m still figuring out… I’m learning how to wind-down, because I’m FULL of adrenaline for a few hours after.
Tell us about the day of a show – what is the process your band goes through to get ready?
Well, I am the band! I tune up my guitar… drink some tea and lots of water… and do a little bit of practicing.
How many times do you rehearse before a show?
I don’t typically rehearse FOR a show… Every day I play and practice, so I make sure what I go up and perform is something that I know extremely well and don’t have to be nervous about remembering. As for the things I say in between songs… it’s often completely ad-libbed… because, well, it’s a surprise for both the audience, and myself!

What are some of the most important lessons you have learnt about music in the last few years?
Songs are completely open to interpretation (that’s the beauty of art!) so you can perform any rendition of the song you want, interpret the lyrics any way you want, and manipulate your inflections to tell any story you want and it’s all good!
How do you feel when you get up on stage?
I start out a tiny bit nervous but then feel ENERGIZED when I start moving!
We are based in the UK – do you have any plans to tour over here?
Oh I sure hope someday I’ll be able to! Right now, I’m doing a lot on Long Island and more places in the Northeast. I can’t wait to get over to the United Kingdom and perform live.
