Sunday Book Club: The Maze Runner, James Dashner

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book that is a young adult adventure series..

The Maze Runner (2014)

James Dashner

Synopsis

When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he’s not alone. He’s surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade – a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they came to be there – or what’s happened to the world outside.

All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything – even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrol its corridors, to try and find out …

– from Waterstones

Positive Points

This is a book that I will warn you from the start you will not want to put down. It is exciting, a page turner and at first you are not sure what is happening but that is what reels you in and makes you want to delve into the world of the maze.

Negative Points

There are a lot of chapters so you may find that off putting but they tend to end at the right time. It can be a tiny bit confusing at times.

Overall Review

I went into this book having no idea what it was about – I didn’t even read the synopsis and I am so glad I didn’t as it made it such a surprise and am intriguing read.
