For The Love Of Film – Day 16 – The Show Must Go On

Everyday this month we are looking at different songs from different films that I love and feel that they deserve their time to shine in the limelight. They are all bits of music that I love and I wanted to talk about them more in depth so that maybe you the reader can have similar experiences and understand why I like them.

Song From Soundtrack: The Show Must Go On – Anthony Weigh, Jim Broadbent, and Nicole Kidman
Film:  Moulin Rouge
Year: 2001

Moulin Rouge is one of my all time favorite films. I have a batch of films I hardly watch, as they are pure magic. This is one of them, I’m due for a rewatch as it has been years, as much as I love it, I refuse to see the West End version, as I know the songs were changed. I don’t want change – I want original only. There

There were so many great songs and there were so many I could choose, but I didn’t want to be predictable. So I decided to choose their Queen cover of the Show Must Go on. The song is already incredibly emotional one, however, putting it into the film, it creates the drama and the attention that is needed.

I vaguely remember seeing this film in the cinema. I was around 12 or 13. My friend asked me to go, and we went with her parents, and for a good part of it, I didn’t understand what was going on.Then something clicked and I loved it.

I adore this song in the film as it is sung so well, and has some phenomenal cinematography shots throughout that really bring the drama to the scene. When listening to this song on headphones, the drama is heightened and everything is very much more emotional, very more dramatised. It is so good.
