Magic of the Music Video – Kasabian Month – Eez-Eh

Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.

I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.

Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.

This month we are delving into the world of Kasabian. They are one of the best indie bands in the United Kingdom and they have some really interesting music videos as they use muted colours and really fun editing techniques to bring a song alive.

Eez-eh – Kasabian

Why did you choose this particular video?

The one thing about Kasabian is that they always create very unique music videos. It is another video that uses black and white style throughout the video. This music video was used to promote their new album and the bright pink is used in a fun way throughout.

So, what is the narrative?

Again, no real narrative but it is obvious that this music video was used to create the brand new album.

Favourite parts of the video

The editing techniques are quite simple on this video, which is really effective. It is another video where the beat of the song is heightened by the edit. An example is when there is a shot of milk being drunk, the edit keeps repeating to make sure that it hit the beat of the track and the jumping edit works really well with the song and makes it really creative. Another example of them hitting the beat is when they jump up and down throughout the video.

Black and white is used effectively again to create a striking video. It was the first song off of the album 48:13 and the only thing that is bright in the video is everything released to the new album. The shocking pink colour really works in the video and creates a lot of drama.

The effects of slow motion and sped up shots are used really subtly to create some really interesting shots and to push the video along. It is really clever because even the smallest thing such as shaking of the hair being slowed down works really well.
