The Travel Book – Rankins Cafe, North Queensferry, Scotland

When you go to visit somewhere you want a place where you can pop into for a break from walking and a cup of tea. Well, today we are talking about an area that has really limited choice. Whilst there is only two places to go and only one of them is a coffee shop, I wanted to include it as I still feel it is important to mention places like this.

Rankins Cafe is located in North Queensferry, a place that is popular for being on the Fife Coastal walk path, having a sea life centre and being in a great location to view the Forth Bridge.

It is easy to find in the main street as it is the only coffee shop so tends to be busy – expect this even more when it is in peak tourist season. It is open most days apart from Tuesday and Wednesday, the times may differ in the summer.

It is a cafe that is quite small inside so you may need to pre-book but it is a great place to head for a coffee and a break. There is also food on offer.

I visited in October 2025, the staff are really friendly, the tea was really good. Out of all the food I advise sticking to the cakes as I personally found the main food lacked seasoning and for the price it was a let down. The cakes however were fantastic.

It is a tourist trap but it is always good to know about, especially if you want to have a tea of a sneaky toilet break.
