Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Ger Eaton

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

My latest single is a song called “The Time It Takes To Fall”. It’s about how quickly your life can seemingly change from comfort to disarray. It’s written like a list of different things that can occur in a brief moment…

Your favourite lyric in this song:

“The Genesis of Reason

The Tolling of the Death Knell

The Changing of the Season

The Final Curtain Call

The Time It Takes To Fall”

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

My current favourite song on my LP is “To The Ones”. It’s a song I wrote about the only truly dependable relationships we have in our lives…with our parents and our kids…..everyone else may let you down…

Your favourite song to play live:

Favourite song to play live is when we run “Phoenix (reborn)” into the title track from the LP, “Season Changes”…   It’s the time in the set when the band really cuts loose… it turns into quite a Psychedelic moment!

The song that was the longest to write and why?

The longest song to ‘complete’ was “Home Again”. I probably wrote it reasonably quickly, but struggled to find the right direction to take it in the studio. After a failed attempt, I abandoned it for nearly a year, before coming back to it with fresh ears, and some John Barry records influencing me…   I’m so glad I gave it the space and time, it was worth it…. I love how it ended up.  Like my very own Bond Theme,  just waiting for the film to be made!!

One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why?

I’d probably recommend “Hollow”. That was the song that really established me in Ireland. It seemed to be a song that resonated.  I guess we’ve all felt Hollow at some point in our lives…

Dream collaboration:

My dream collaboration would be with Elvis Costello. I’ve been a fan for a long time and have seen him live in many incarnations…   and sure if he’s good enough for Paul McCartney!!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

With my 14 piece band, there’s always a slight apprehension… but excitement and pride in what we’ve achieved as a band will always win out!

The track that is most fun to play live:

The track most fun to play live is our version of Colin Blunstone’s “Caroline Goodbye”. His is one of my favourite voices in pop…ever…  and it’s such a great song where my String and Brass sections can really cut loose!

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Vitamin C and Gaffa Tape!

Describe your fans in three words:

Simply The Best!

A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:

The Emitt Rhodes song “Rainbow Ends”. The final song on his final LP.  Such a beautiful song from somebody who seems resigned and ready for life’s next journey…

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

This year, with my LP “Season Changes” just out on my label ‘Dimple Discs’,  I really want to push it as far as we can… Definitely a London date or 2… and of course there’s always the next album to write!
