Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Our latest track, “Astrofeet,” is a high-speed tune that mixes vintage spring reverb with a bit of punk energy. It’s basically the sound of a wave breaking at full throttle.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
We’re instrumental, so no lyrics — just riffs that say everything words can’t.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
”Clint Eastwood´s Mule” from our debut EP. It is dynamic with a good well-crafted structure. It takes the listener on a cinematic voyage into the wild west.
Your favourite song to play live:
I like the energy of “Reef Rumblin´”.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
“Dunes”. It started out as a quite stripped melody line but grew into our most arranged tune to date. A really nice sounding western lullaby.
One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why?
“Waves of Steel” It’s a perfect intro to what we do — vintage tone, driving rhythm, and a bit of madness. You’ll know exactly who The Riptide Rats are after one spin.
Dream collaboration:
I’d love to jam with Dick Dale if he were still with us — the king of surf guitar. Or maybe a modern collab with The Strokes.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Nervous energy, excitement, and then total freedom once the first beat hits.
The track that is most fun to play live:
“Breaker” is always a crowd pleaser.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Drumsticks and a backup snare.
Describe your fans in three words:
Loyal, passionate and a bit crazy.
A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:
“Dilation” by Satan´s Pilgrims. Creepy and exciting tune that is absolutely phenomenal.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
Our debut album “Waves of Steel” was released on the 22nd of November. Before the year ends we will play a number of live shows.
