New Album Deep Dive – INTERVIEW – Relief, Noah and The Void

Welcome to a feature where we sit down and talk to bands and artists about their latest albums to find out all about it. Today we speak to Noah to find out about the debut album Relief.

Hello, nice to meet you Noah, tell us about yourself!

I’m 27, and from Rhode Island, USA. I’m inspired by anything related to the arts, but I have a particular fascination with sound. I started making music at the end of middle school, going into my freshman year of high school, and I never looked back. After graduating from grade school; I got into my dream school – Berklee. But my health made things hard; and I dropped out of the school. But that was a key moment for me; I realized I truly do love music, and I have what it takes. It also inspired me to finding my platform – Mental health awareness and avocation!

Finally, about 400+ original tunes, and beats on my laptop later, I’m still fine tuning things; now mixing and mastering my works as well. I think the coolest thing about “Noah & The Void” is that I donate 100% of my stream rev to pediatric cancer research – I lost a friend a while back and this is how I like to show my support! Check out “Evanscrew.org” to learn more about my friend!

Tell us about the new album, ‘Relief’!

This album is my take on my own human experience. That includes the full spectrum of feelings and emotions – Not just the good stuff. I want to build a sense of community with this album; and encourage people to feel their feelings out, and not bottle them inside. Sonically, the album is as diverse as my own emotions are – I bend genres a lot in this work, from electronic, to alternative, to pop, to piano/acoustic ballads.. but there’s always a solid cohesion to the entire project!

Favourite track on ‘Relief’ and why?

Tough one, maybe I’ll pick my favorite to play live – and that’s gotta be One Last Kiss; It just seems to always get the whole crowd into the song and performance. It’s usually my closer song hahaha.

Tell us a bit about the recording process for ‘Relief’, was it fun to do?

I’ve written a lot of material, and over different stretches of time, I recorded things differently – and as the person who also mixes and masters the work – this made it very hard to unify everything, if that makes sense? I’m sitting behind my desk thinking to myself, ‘Why would I do that?” when looking back on my recordings. It’s also a really cool way to see how I’ve grown over time as an artist. Seeing where my headspace was and how it is now is always very curious to  me haha.

What inspired the album name, ‘Relief’?

Hanging on the theme of hitting all the emotions I find myself dealing with; it felt like it only made sense to title the work with the feeling that I feel is the end goal – Relief

That and the song that is titled “Relief” is also just very heavy and important. I want people to understand what the project means to me before they even hear it

Tell us the idea behind the album cover?

The album cover was a trial of tests and errors haha. How do you include all these feelings into one work of art, visually? I put life in the center, my cacti – a strong and sometimes hurtful plant haha, then I surrounded it with other key elements; like death (skull), vices (Cigs), and modern art (Radio).  I also knew I wanted it to be calming to look at – so I chose blue! 🙂

What one of your songs on the new album do you think will be the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

Oh that’s probably the title track – and strictly because of its content as a song. It’s very emotional, and personal.. It’s hard to sing those words for me; over and over again while rehearsing, and then in front of a crowd.. It’s all just very heavy.

Why should people listen to ‘Relief’?

People should listen if they want to go for a ride, and explore their perspectives on themselves and the world that’s around them.. As much as these topics could be tough to talk about – I put them in a setting that you can tap your foot to as well haha.
