Magic of the Music Video – Busted Month – Crashed The Wedding

Welcome BACK to the Magic of The Music Video feature! We have been having a break from this but now it is back and this time it is on the new day of Saturday afternoons! Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.

I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.

Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.

This month we are delving into the world of Busted and taking a look at some of the videos that I personally feel have some great editing techniques.

Crashed The Wedding – Busted

Why did you choose this particular video?

Whilst I was never a huge Busted fan, I was absolutely mesmerised by this video when I was a kid. For someone who loves music videos and for someone who wanted to be a video editor – this video was magic. I would be so excited when this video would pop up on the music channel and spent so long analysing it. Still a favourite of mine!

So, what is the narrative?

The Busted boys crash a wedding to steal the bride away from the groom. A lot of the characters are members of the band dressed up as different characters.

Favourite parts of the video?

The main thing about this video which makes it magic is the fact that the band play every role of the main characters. You van get lost in their characterisations. The one thing I adore is the editing, it is absolutely seamless. The only bit that may be classed as a ‘cheap edit’ is when Matt kisses himself as a different character – there is a heart shape in front of their lips.

Due to the fact this is a pop video, the colours in the video are really vibrant. This is to make it feel fun and energetic and also exciting. There is a lot of red used in the video – especially on the ‘character’ versions of the video. The only ‘red’ on the actual band is Matt’s hair which interlinks with the theme and makes it all blend into each other.

The editing in the video is done so well that it feels like it is continuing in one long shot as the camera pans a lot to different areas of the reception area. This is why it is such a clever music video and it is one i think that is fun to watch and enjoy.
