Shy Guy – Diana King
Today we look at a single that you may remember from the nineties as it appeared on the soundtrack for the blockbuster movie Bad Boys.
On the 14th March 1995, Jamaican musician Diana King released the single Shy Guy. It was written by Diana King, Andy Marvel and Kingsley Gardner, it was produced by Andy Marvel and released under the record label Work. Shy Guy was from the album Tougher Than Love which was also released in 1995.
Shy Guy may sound familiar for two reasons – firstly because it samples School Boy Crush by The Average White Band. Secondly because it has been covered or sampled by many musicians including Maya in 2008, Fat Family in 1998, Unicq in 2016 and DJ Mustard with Nikki Minaj in 2016.
The song did really well in the charts and went to number 1 in Europe, Finland, Italy, Sweden and Zimbabwe. In the UK it went to number 2 in the UK top 40, 1 in the UK Hip Hop charts and 7 in the UK Dance chart. It also became certified gold in the UK, USA, New Zealand, Germany, France and Belgium.
