Sunday Book Club: Am I Having Fun Now? Suzi Ruffell

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book by a comedian that delves into the scientific side of the autobiography…

Am I Having Fun Now?
(2025)

Suzi Ruffell

Synopsis

Comedian Suzi Ruffell is considering life’s big questions.

In this brutally honest, funny, and often moving memoir, Suzi winningly tells her life story, and asks a host of experts to answer the tricky questions it prompts along the way. Diamond life advice comes from the likes of Elizabeth Day, Dolly Alderton, Charlene Douglas, Laura Bates, Dr Kirren Schnack, and more.

From masking anxiety with musical theatre and struggling to find her groove at school, on stage, and in her love life, to (eventually) coming out, falling in love, and becoming a parent, Suzi lays her life bare with trademark wit, verve and style.

– from Waterstones

Positive Points

This is a really well written book, whilst it is an autobiography, each chapter ends with a scientific look at the topic that is discussed. This makes it both an engaging and educational read. Suzi is a great writer which means that it is really easy to like this book from the start.

Negative Points

You may find it a bit short as it is only ten chapters.

Overall Review

If you are looking for an autobiography that is easy to read, has a lot of information from you to learn from and an emotional story at the core then this is the book that you will enjoy. If you listen to the audio book there are exclusive interviews with comedians such as Josh Widdicombe and Tom Allen.
