Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
My latest single, “Growing Pains,” is a love letter I wrote to my best friend about growing up together in California. I had just moved to New York City when I wrote it. It was such an exciting and yet bittersweet chapter of life. Adulthood has this way of scattering us, and the people we love most end up oceans away. It’s beautiful in its own way we’re all chasing our spark but there’s also this ache, because part of you is always remembering how things used to be.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“Dots on my face, gifts from the California sun.” That line always brings me a lot of joy. So much has changed, but the little sunspots I got as a kid are still with me. They remind me of home.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an EP track:
I think it has to be the title track, “Growing Pains.” It’s the most honest I’ve ever been in my songwriting, and thats always felt special .
Your favourite song to play live:
My favorite song to play live is “You.” it’s been one of the fan favorites for a while, and I love seeing how excited people get when we play it. Folks start wiggling their bodies to the beat, it’s pure joy. We lean more into a rock vibe when we perform it live, and it’s just so much fun to let loose with it.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
“Stick to the script” took the longest. I was coming out of a three-month creative rut and hated everything I was making. At the same time, everything around my music career felt tense, like I kept hitting walls no matter what I tried. That song became a kind of therapy. I had to keep telling myself not to judge it before it was even finished, to let it be messy and honest instead of over editing. That process taught me a lot.
Your most emotional track:
“Growing Pains,” for sure. It’s been a tearjerker at some shows for the audience and for me. Friendships are so beautiful, and I feel so lucky to have written a song that celebrates that love.
Dream collaboration:
My dream collaboration would be to write and play a tune with Sir Paul McCartney! I’ve loved The Beatles since I was a kid. His songwriting has been a blueprint for so much of my musical inspiration.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
To be honest, I feel RELIEF! There’s so much build-up to a show nerves, planning, and pressure. But the moment I step on stage, that all fades. I just feel present and grateful to be there sharing music with my lovely audience.
The hardest track to play live:
“Stick to the script” has got a lot of changes and can get confusing for me even now. Finding the balance between the song’s innocence and sweetness while keeping the energy high can be tricky but when you can find that balance it’s such a vibe.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
I always have coffee on me, that is ESSENTIAL! Also, my wig Henrietta and my Mary Janes that I call my clonkers!
Describe your fans in three words:
Angels. Artists. Whimsical.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“Dive” by Olivia Dean. That song is just so satisfying lyrically. The first time I heard the opening line “It isn’t working. I’m a tidal wave of question marks and you’re just surfing,” I was like wow! I replayed it over and over again. I wish I wrote that. It’s just so clever and sticks with you.
What we can look forward to from you this year:
As I let this EP simmer for a moment, I’m already cooking up new music that leans more into the nostalgic world of artists like Nancy Sinatra, The Beatles, and Fleetwood Mac. I’ve been having a lot of fun exploring that time of music and pulling inspiration from it and I can’t wait to bring everyone along for the ride.
